UAB Softball announced on May 5 that Ashlyn Shirah and Hannah Dorsett have been selected to the American Conference All-Conference Second Team. This marks the first career all-conference team honors for both athletes, as well as the first such recognition for UAB Softball since 2024.
The awards highlight individual performances during conference play. Shirah led qualified UAB hitters with a .384 batting average, which ranked fifth overall in the conference. She also recorded eight home runs and drove in 27 runs, placing her among the top five in both categories within the league. In addition, Shirah posted a .721 slugging percentage in American games and reached base at a .454 clip over her 27 conference appearances. She led UAB in several offensive categories including hits, doubles, home runs, RBI, total bases, runs scored, batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, and stolen bases.
Dorsett contributed with a .310 batting average from 27 hits in 87 at-bats during conference play. She drove in four runs and scored six times over 27 games. Dorsett also maintained a .333 on-base percentage and led her team with seven sacrifice bunts.
This is Dorsett’s second postseason honor from the American Conference; she was previously named to the All-Rookie team as a freshman in 2024.
Shirah, Dorsett, and their teammates are set to open play at the American Championships against eighth-seeded Tulsa at 9 a.m. Central Time on Wednesday.
