Gary Palmer, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Alabama’s 6th district, recently shared his views on various critical issues, including AI competition with China and domestic legislation proposals, through a series of tweets. Palmer, who has served in Congress since 2015, is vocal about national security and healthcare reforms.

In a tweet dated April 9, 2025, Palmer emphasized the urgency of addressing the United States’ position in AI development relative to China. Citing Dr. Eric Schmidt, he commented on the necessity for America to secure its supply chain in rare earth elements, framing it as a “national security” concern. “We are in an arms race with China on AI. For the sake of our national security, we must act on mining, processing, and refining rare earth elements immediately. ‘We want full control of our own supply chain… it’s an issue of national security for America.'” -Dr. Eric Schmidt

Palmer also directed his followers to additional information regarding his legislative efforts. On April 9, 2025, he posted a link to his full statement and the details of a new bill he introduced, encouraging readers to learn more about his proposed measures. “Read my full statement and the bill text here”

Continuing his advocacy for change, Palmer addressed healthcare policies, particularly concerning senior citizens and their insurance options. On the same day, Palmer introduced the Retirement Freedom Act, aimed at separating Social Security from Medicare, thereby allowing seniors greater autonomy over their healthcare choices. He articulated his stance that individuals should not have to forego private insurance due to entanglements with Social Security. “People should not have to give up their private insurance because their Social Security is being held hostage. This is why I introduced the Retirement Freedom Act to decouple Social Security from Medicare &allow senior citizens to take control over their own medical decisions.”
