UAB men’s basketball head coach Andy Kennedy announced on May 3 the addition of Maryland transfer Aleks Alston to the program.
The move is significant as it adds depth and versatility to UAB’s frontcourt. Alston, a 6-foot-10 forward from Chicago, Illinois, played last season at Maryland where he appeared in 25 games. He averaged 8.6 minutes per game, scoring a total of 34 points and collecting 42 rebounds.
“Proud to welcome Aleks to the Blazer Basketball family,” Kennedy said. “Aleks is a 6’10 forward with playmaking and three-point shooting abilities that will add size and versatility to our frontcourt. He was the top-rated player in Illinois his senior season in high school and the experience he garnered as a freshman in the Big 10 will put him in the position to make an immediate impact at UAB.”
Alston had a standout career at Kenwood Academy, earning four-star recruit status out of high school. He was ranked as the No.1 player from Illinois and No.22 power forward nationally, also appearing at No.78 on Sports Center Next’s top recruits for 2025 and tenth among power forwards transferring this year.
He becomes the tenth addition to UAB’s signing class for men’s basketball for the upcoming season, joining several other prospects from high school, junior college transfers, and Division I transfers.
