UAB men’s basketball (25-9, 14-6 C-USA) earned a No. 4 seed in the National Invitation Tournament and will face Southern Miss (25-7, 14-4 Sun Belt) in the first round on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. CT at Bartow Arena. The contest will stream on ESPN+. The Blazers are making their 13th appearance in the NIT since the program began in 1978-79 and their first since 2015-16.
UAB has won 25 games in back-to-back seasons for only the second time and the Blazers’ 74 wins over the last three seasons are the most over a three-year span in program history. For the second consecutive season, the Blazers reached the Conference USA championship game, coming up just short against Florida Atlantic.
The Blazers will host an NIT game at Bartow Arena for the first time since the 2009-10 season, which was also the last time UAB won a game in the tournament. UAB is 14-12 all-time in the NIT while owning a pair of third place finishes in 1989 and 1993.
UAB leads the all-time series against the Golden Eagles, 36-19, and the Blazers have won each of the last four meetings against the Conference USA conference foe.
