News and Notes From UAB’s Scrimmage No. 2

0Comments

For the first time this fall camp, the UAB football team was inside Protective Stadium on Saturday for their second scrimmage of fall camp.

NEWS AND NOTES:

  • Led by Dylan Hopkins, the offense looked sharp and moved the ball well. They had multiple big plays and scored three times before halftime. Running back Lee Witherspoon highlighted the big plays by reversing fields and finding the end zone on approximately a 45-yard run. Witherspoon transferred to UAB from Mississippi State last season and broke his leg in fall camp which resulted in him missing the entire season. He is back healthy and confident, and could play a big role in complimenting DeWayne McBride, Jermaine Brown Jr. and A.J. Gates in the backfield.

  • The defense also made some big plays and forced some three-and-outs. True freshman cornerback Trey Miles had a few exceptional pass breakups in the end zone, while Jason Riles Jr. scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery and Keon Handley Jr. tallied the scrimmage’s lone interception.

  • With school starting Monday, the Blazers have officially completed fall camp and enter game week prep starting this Thursday. UAB is just 11 days away from opening the season on Sept. 1 against Alabama A&M at Protective Stadium.

Season and single game tickets are still available for the 2022 season. Season tickets start as low as $15 per game. Click here to purchase tickets today.
