Former Hoover High School basketball star Reniya Kelly and her North Carolina Tar Heels squad were defeated 63-42 by the UConn Huskies in the NCAA Tournament on Friday, March 27.
The matchup was held at Dickies Arena with tipoff at 5 p.m.
Jasmine Dereje set a new school record for UAB in the women’s 400-meter hurdles at LSU Alumni Gold. Other athletes also posted personal bests as UAB prepares for its next meet.
The UAB Blazers softball team lost to South Florida, falling behind early and unable to recover offensively. Ashlyn Shirah hit her eighth home run of the season but it was not enough for victory. The teams will meet again tomorrow for Senior Day.
The Samford softball team swept Furman after a decisive 17-1 victory on Apr. 19. Strong offensive performances led to new season highs for Samford as they extended their winning streak.
