Washington D.C. – On June 26, U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (AL-07) released the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s decision to allow the redrawing of Louisiana’s congressional map to add a second majority-Black district.

“This is a major victory for Black voters in Louisiana who will finally get more fair and equitable representation in Congress. It has been a matter of weeks since the Supreme Court’s Allen v. Milligan decision and its reverberations are already being felt across the nation. Whether in Alabama, Louisiana, or any other state, this decision affirms that state legislatures cannot dilute the power of Black voters who deserve fair representation in our democracy.”
