Rep. Terri A. Sewell, who represents Alabama’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, recently addressed several key issues on her social media accounts, including Social Security protection, an upcoming town hall event, and the passing of a prominent civil rights leader.
On August 15, 2025, Sewell emphasized her commitment to Social Security with the statement: “We’re fighting to protect and enhance #SocialSecurity so that every senior can retire with dignity after a lifetime of work.” She also invited followers to watch her latest episode of #TerriTalks.
Later that day, Sewell announced an upcoming public engagement: “I’m hosting a LIVE Telephone Town Hall next Thursday, August 21! We will discuss the latest on tariffs, education funding, and Trump’s cuts to health care and food assistance.” She encouraged constituents to sign up for participation.
On August 16, 2025, Sewell joined others in Alabama in honoring Bishop Calvin Woods Sr., stating: “I join the Birmingham community and all Alabamians in mourning the loss of a true Civil Rights giant, Bishop Calvin Woods, Sr. Bishop Woods was a devoted man of God whose love for his family and his community was unmatched. He was never afraid to stand up for what is right and”
Sewell has served as U.S. Representative for Alabama’s 7th District since 2011 after succeeding Artur Davis. Born in Huntsville in 1965 and currently residing in Birmingham, she holds degrees from Princeton University (BA), St Hilda’s College at Oxford (MA), and Harvard Law School (JD).
