Rep. Terri A. Sewell, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Alabama’s 7th district since 2011, posted a series of statements on September 30, 2025, addressing concerns over health care policy and the ongoing government shutdown.
In her first post at 19:10 UTC, Sewell stated, “House Democrats will not rubber-stamp the Republican assault on our health care system. We’re fighting to cancel the cuts, lower the cost, and save health care!”
Later that evening at 22:34 UTC, she commented on legislative attendance with “It’s 6pm and our Republican colleagues are still nowhere to be found.”
At 23:13 UTC, Sewell addressed the government shutdown and its implications for health care access: “Trump and Congressional Republicans are shutting down the government in order to continue taking health care away from the American people. To keep you informed, my office has compiled answers to frequently asked questions. “
Sewell’s comments come amid heightened tensions in Congress regarding federal funding and proposed changes to national health care policies.
Born in Huntsville, Alabama in 1965 and currently residing in Birmingham, Sewell holds degrees from Princeton University (BA), St Hilda’s College at Oxford (MA), and Harvard University (JD). She succeeded Artur Davis as representative for Alabama’s 7th district in 2011.
