Rep. Terri A. Sewell, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Alabama’s 7th district since 2011, posted a series of statements on October 8, 2025, addressing health care policy and criticizing Republican actions related to Medicaid, Medicare, and insurance premiums.
In a tweet posted at 16:15 UTC, Sewell wrote: “Republicans slashed Medicaid and Medicare and caused health care premiums to more than double. Tune in as Democrats address the Republican health care crisis and what we are doing to fix it!”
Later that day, at 19:37 UTC, she added: “Stop the lies. Save health care. End the shutdown.”
In a subsequent tweet at 21:13 UTC, Sewell highlighted the impact of policy changes on her constituents: “If you are a 60-year-old couple in my district earning $82,800/year enrolled in a https://t.co/n9S0k3krGC plan, your premiums could increase by $20,122/year thanks to Trump and Republicans. That’s cruel, and Democrats are fighting to stop it!”
Sewell’s comments come amid ongoing debates in Congress regarding the future of federal health programs. She has represented Alabama’s 7th District since replacing Artur Davis in 2011. Born in Huntsville, Alabama in 1965, Sewell is currently 58 years old and resides in Birmingham. Her educational background includes a BA from Princeton University, an MA from St Hilda’s College, Oxford, and a JD from Harvard University.
