Sewell, who was born in Huntsville, Alabama, and currently resides in Birmingham, has an extensive educational background with degrees from Princeton University, St Hilda’s College at Oxford, and Harvard University.
On March 4, 2025, Rep. Sewell criticized President Trump’s trade policies via Twitter: “Alabama families are already struggling with the high cost of living. President Trump’s trade war will only increase inflation for Alabama families and weaken our national security. President Trump must stop selling out the American people and our allies in order to fund his tax…”
Later that day, she addressed the closure of IRS offices in Alabama: “NEWS: As Trump and Musk look to cut taxes for billionaires, they are shutting down seven IRS offices in Alabama, including two in Birmingham. This will make it much harder for working class Alabamians to get help filing their taxes!”
