Rep. Terri A. Sewell, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Alabama’s 7th district since 2011, has been vocal on social media about several issues concerning her constituents and broader policy matters.
On June 17, 2025, Sewell expressed concern over potential health care cuts proposed in what she referred to as “Trump’s Big Ugly Bill.” She stated that these cuts “will force rural hospitals to close and put patients’ lives at risk.” She mentioned an upcoming discussion with Hill Hospital CEO Loretta Wilson to emphasize the importance of supporting rural hospitals and their patients. The conversation was scheduled for streaming on June 18. “The health care cuts in Trump’s Big Ugly Bill will force rural hospitals to close and put patients’ lives at risk.”
On June 18, 2025, Sewell highlighted a significant infrastructure project initiated by her office in 2022. Her tweet reminded followers of the $4 million secured for the Valley Creek Rail-to-Trail project aimed at converting an inactive rail line into a recreational path for Birmingham and West Jefferson County residents. “You may remember that in 2022, my office helped secure $4 million to kickstart the Valley Creek Rail-to-Trail project.”
Later that day, Sewell welcomed new summer district interns named Samir, Samuel, Lauren, Hill, and Christopher to her team. She expressed gratitude for their participation and enthusiasm as part of Team Sewell. “Grateful for the opportunity to welcome our summer district interns: Samir, Samuel, Lauren, Hill, and Christopher!”
Sewell was born in Huntsville, Alabama in 1965 and currently resides in Birmingham. She holds degrees from Princeton University (BA), St Hilda’s College at Oxford (MA), and Harvard University (JD).
