Representative Terri A. Sewell, who has served Alabama’s 7th District in the U.S. Congress since 2011, recently shared updates on her official activities through a series of posts on social media. Sewell, born in Huntsville in 1965 and currently residing in Birmingham, holds degrees from Princeton University, St Hilda’s College at Oxford, and Harvard Law School.
On July 9, 2025, Sewell welcomed a new group of interns to her Washington D.C. office. In her post she stated: “Excited to welcome our second session of D.C. summer interns! Welcome to the team, Jerome, Selma, Ashley, Carlton, Olivia, Haileigh, and Carrington!!”
The following day, July 10, 2025, Sewell announced the re-introduction of legislation aimed at supporting military families’ access to maternal health services. She wrote: “NEWS: I just re-introduced legislation to improve access to prenatal care for military families expecting a new baby. Our military families make enormous sacrifices. The last thing they should have to worry about is accessing basic maternal health services!”
On July 11, 2025, Sewell highlighted her engagement with small business leaders in Tuscaloosa regarding concerns over recent tariff policies. She said: “I brought together small business leaders in Tuscaloosa for a roundtable about the pain and uncertainty they are facing from the new sweeping tariffs. I’m committed to giving our small businesses a voice and fighting back against the harmful trade policies being pushed in”
Sewell succeeded Artur Davis as representative for Alabama’s 7th district and has maintained an active role both legislatively and within her community.
