Rep. Terri A. Sewell, who represents Alabama’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, highlighted achievements and local initiatives in a series of posts on February 6, 2026.
In one post marking Black History Month, Sewell wrote: “Today for #BlackHistoryMonth we honor Ashley M. Jones, Alabama’s first Black Poet Laureate and the youngest person to ever hold the position. Her poetry exploring the impact of the Deep South on Black men and women has received national recognition!” (posted February 6, 2026).
Later that day, she announced new federal funding for her state: “Great news!! We secured more than $9.5 million for local Alabama projects as a part of the recently-passed government funding package! “ (posted February 6, 2026).
In another message posted that evening, Sewell stated: “When someone shows you who they are, believe them.” (posted February 6, 2026).
Sewell has represented Alabama’s 7th District since 2011 after succeeding Artur Davis. She was born in Huntsville in 1965 and currently resides in Birmingham. Sewell holds degrees from Princeton University and St Hilda’s College at Oxford, as well as a law degree from Harvard University.
