U.S. Representative Terri A. Sewell, who serves Alabama’s 7th district in Congress, recently highlighted community engagement and educational achievement in a series of posts on her official Twitter account.
On September 17, 2025, Sewell shared her experience with youth leadership: “Had a great time speaking with these awesome young leaders in the Jack and Jill program alongside Senator Cory Booker! They give me hope for a bright future! “ The event emphasized the importance of mentorship and youth development programs.
Later that day, she reflected on her late mother’s legacy and ongoing efforts to address cancer through legislation: “My mother was an exemplary educator, a trailblazing civic leader, and an amazing role model. She is one of the millions of Americans who have lost their battle to cancer, but her legacy will live on in the many lives saved by this bill. I’m so grateful to @RepArrington for”. The message underscored both personal loss and bipartisan cooperation in health-related policymaking.
On September 18, Sewell celebrated educational excellence within her district: “Congratulations to Ms. Veronica Pitts of Selma High School for being named the National Civics Teacher of the Year! We are so proud!! “ This recognition brought attention to local educators making national impact.
Sewell has represented Alabama’s 7th District since 2011 after succeeding Artur Davis. Born in Huntsville in 1965 and now residing in Birmingham, she holds degrees from Princeton University (BA), St Hilda’s College at Oxford (MA), and Harvard Law School (JD). Her career has often focused on civic leadership and education within her constituency.
