Rep. Terri A. Sewell, U.S. Congresswoman representing Alabama’s 7th district since 2011, addressed the public through a series of social media posts on November 2 and 3, 2025, focusing on local community recognition and the ongoing federal government shutdown.
On November 2, Sewell highlighted her participation in a community event: “Team Sewell joined the Moundville community to celebrate the renaming of Griffin Street in honor of Lt. Gen. W. J. Williams. We’re extraordinarily grateful for his decades of outstanding service and leadership in the U.S. Marine Corps! “
The following day, she turned her attention to national politics and the impact of the federal government shutdown on her constituents. In one post dated November 3, she wrote: “It does not have to be this way. Democrats are seated at the negotiating table, ready to work with Republicans on a bill to bring down these out-of-control costs and reopen the federal government. We implore our Republican colleagues to come back from vacation and join us!” In another message posted at the same time, she warned about potential consequences if legislative action is not taken: “Make no mistake—We are standing on the edge of a cliff. If Republicans fail to act quickly, thousands of Alabama families will lose health care coverage altogether. Our communities will be hungrier, sicker, and poorer as a result.”
Sewell has represented Alabama’s 7th district since replacing Artur Davis in 2011 and currently resides in Birmingham after being born in Huntsville in 1965. She holds degrees from Princeton University (BA), St Hilda’s College at Oxford (MA), and Harvard Law School (JD).
Her recent posts reflect both her engagement with local communities—such as honoring military service—and her advocacy for bipartisan cooperation during periods of federal budgetary impasse.
