Rep. Terri A. Sewell, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Alabama’s 7th district since 2011, recently shared updates on community events and celebrations through her social media platform.

On June 19, 2025, Rep. Sewell announced the unveiling of the newly refurbished Willie Mays Park in Fairfield. She stated that “Generations of young athletes will now get to play baseball right here in Willie Mays’ home neighborhood.” The project was made possible with contributions from Major League Baseball and Senator Coleman among others. “It is truly an investment in our future,” she remarked.

Later that day, Rep. Sewell attended a Juneteenth celebration in Tuscaloosa where she honored Fitzgerald Washington as this year’s Living Legend honoree. Washington holds the distinction of being the first African American Secretary of the Alabama Department of Labor. Team Sewell expressed their honor to participate in this event via social media: “Team Sewell was honored to celebrate Juneteenth…”

In another post on June 19, Rep. Sewell highlighted a tribute to the Negro Leagues at Birmingham’s historic Rickwood Field during the second annual East-West Classic game: “What better way to celebrate Juneteenth than by paying tribute to the Negro Leagues…”

Terri Sewell, born in Huntsville, Alabama in 1965 and currently residing in Birmingham, is an alumnus of Princeton University (BA), St Hilda’s College at Oxford (MA), and Harvard University (JD).
