The Samford University baseball team defeated Presbyterian College 5-0 on Mar. 29 in the final game of a three-game series at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
The victory brings Samford’s season record to 12-14, while Presbyterian drops to 5-24. The Bulldogs’ strong performance was highlighted by Parker McDonald, who went two-for-three with a home run and two runs batted in. Eddie Marshall also contributed with two hits, including a solo home run.
Starting pitcher Noah Berry earned the win for Samford after pitching three scoreless innings and striking out four batters. John Whitney and Zak Spurrier also pitched in relief for the Bulldogs. “This was just an all-around great performance,” Samford head coach Tony David said. “Yesterday and today, I thought we played as well as we can play after a tough Friday. I told the guys on the field after the game, really since Jacksonville State a few weeks ago, we’ve played at a really high level.”
Presbyterian managed five hits from five different players but could not score against Samford’s pitching staff. Tristan McGregor took the loss for Presbyterian after allowing two runs over four innings.
Samford scored early with single runs in both the third and fourth innings before adding three more in the seventh inning to seal their shutout victory.
Looking ahead, Samford will travel to Carrollton, Georgia, to face West Georgia on Tuesday, Mar. 31.
