The Samford baseball team secured a 13-3 victory over Wofford in a seven-inning game at Joe Lee Griffin Field on May 16. The Bulldogs finished the regular season with an overall record of 28-24 and a Southern Conference record of 12-9, while Wofford concluded at 34-20 overall and also held a conference record of 12-9.

This win places Samford as the No. 3 seed for the upcoming Southern Conference Tournament, with their first game scheduled for Wednesday at Fluor Field in Greenville, South Carolina. The full tournament bracket will be released by the league office later this weekend.

Eddie Marshall led Samford’s offense, going two-for-three with a double and three runs batted in. Luke Boykin contributed two hits and three RBI, while Jeffrey Ince added two hits and one RBI. Pierce Dutton had two hits and drove in two runs, Parker McDonald went two-for-four, Gus Gandy was two-for-three, and Jake Souders drove in two runs.

John Malone earned the win on the mound for Samford after pitching three innings and allowing one run on five hits. Mason Blasche and Austin Tommasini also pitched during the game. For Wofford, Niko Brini went three-for-four with both a triple and home run to drive in two runs. Miller Alston took the loss after giving up eight runs on seven hits across just under two innings pitched.

Samford established an early lead by scoring four runs each in both the first and second innings. Key moments included RBI singles from Souders and Boykin as well as a sacrifice fly from Marshall in the opening frame; Marshall added a double that brought home another pair of runners during the second inning.

Wofford narrowed Samford’s lead to five by scoring twice in the third inning and once more in the fifth before Samford closed out with five additional runs in their half of the seventh inning to end play via mercy rule.
