The Samford University baseball team secured a 7-4 victory over Presbyterian on Mar. 28, evening the series at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
With this win, Samford’s season record improved to 11-14, while Presbyterian dropped to 5-23. The game was highlighted by strong pitching and timely hitting from the Bulldogs.
Mason Blasche earned the win for Samford after pitching six innings, allowing only one unearned run on three hits and striking out five batters. Ryan Vermillion, Will Andre, and Trey Sanders also contributed on the mound for the Bulldogs. “As poorly as we played yesterday, I thought we played that well today,” Samford head coach Tony David said. “It was a really clean game defensively. Mason did a great job early of navigating that trouble and got out of it only giving up the one run. And then he was what he has been for us for a while now, he was dominant.”
Offensively, Jake Souders led Samford by going 2-for-4 with a home run and one RBI. Luke Boykin and Parker McDonald each had two hits for the Bulldogs as well. Gus Gandy added three runs batted in during his performance at the plate.
For Presbyterian, Emory Guilford went 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI, while Caden Mason and Nick Smith each drove in runs for their team. Christian Charalambous took the loss after pitching four-and-a-third innings.
The teams will conclude their series Sunday at Joe Lee Griffin Field at 1 p.m., with fans able to follow live stats online.
