The Samford baseball team will host Mercer for a three-game Southern Conference series at Joe Lee Griffin Field, beginning Friday, Apr. 30. The scheduled games are set for Friday at noon, Saturday at 4 p.m., and Sunday at 1 p.m.

This matchup is significant as Samford holds a narrow lead in the all-time series with Mercer, leading 60-59 after 119 previous meetings. Last season, the teams split four games; Mercer won two of three regular-season contests in Macon while Samford claimed a victory during the conference tournament.

Samford enters the weekend with an overall record of 23-19 and an 8-4 mark in conference play. The team’s midweek game against Jacksonville State was canceled due to rain. In their most recent action, Samford swept USC Upstate in a three-game series last weekend. Scheduled starting pitchers for Samford are Joseph Lee on Friday (3-0 record, 4.05 ERA), Mason Blasche on Saturday (3-5 record, 5.43 ERA), and Noah Berry on Sunday (4-1 record, 2.61 ERA). Key offensive contributors include Jake Souders (.391 average with ten home runs and thirty-nine runs batted in), Luke Boykin (team leader with twelve home runs and forty-two RBI), Gus Gandy (.336 average), Cade Carr (.331 average), Pierce Dutton (.300 average), and Jeffrey Ince (.296 average).

Mercer arrives with a stronger overall record of 33-12 and is currently 7-5 in Southern Conference play. The Bears recently defeated Georgia Southern by one run and swept Wofford last weekend. Projected starting pitchers for Mercer are Garrett Lambert (3-0 record, 4.09 ERA) on Friday, Miguel Hugas (7-2 record, 5.79 ERA) on Saturday, and Jeb Johnson (2-2 record, 5.06 ERA) on Sunday. Titan Kamaka leads Mercer’s offense with a .416 batting average along with twenty doubles; Braydon Kersey has hit seventeen home runs while Chris Katz leads the team with fifty-seven RBI.
