The Samford softball team completed a sweep of Chattanooga in Southern Conference play with a 10-4 victory at home on March 29. The Bulldogs have now won six straight games, improving their record to 15-21 overall and 5-1 in conference.
This series is important for the Bulldogs as it strengthens their position in the Southern Conference standings and continues their recent winning streak.
Brandy Phillips gave Samford an early lead with a two-run home run in the first inning. Addison Smith scored on a wild pitch, and Olivia Shaw hit an RBI triple in the second inning to make it 4-0. Shaw later added a two-run double, finishing her day with three hits, including a triple and double, along with three runs batted in. Katie Campbell delivered a three-run home run in the sixth inning that helped secure the win for Samford.
Phillips contributed both offensively and as starting pitcher, striking out three over five and two-thirds innings before Sara Bond and Makinley Turner closed out the game without allowing any hits. Campbell’s performance during this series brought her total to fourteen home runs this season, which leads the conference.
The Bulldogs collected thirteen hits during this game, five of which went for extra bases. Their next matchup will be against UAB on Tuesday night before returning to conference play against Wofford.
