The Samford track and field teams earned several top placements at the Maroon and White Tuneup held at Mississippi State on May 2. Athletes from Samford finished in the top three in 14 events, including five first-place results.
The meet served as a preparation for upcoming competitions, with strong performances highlighting the readiness of Samford’s athletes. The results included victories in both individual and relay events.
In women’s high jump, Dorsey Parker secured first place with a leap of 1.65 meters. Kyle Kaufelds won the men’s javelin event with a throw of 62.97 meters, while Kiera-Lee Abrahams took first in the women’s long jump by reaching 6.09 meters. The men’s 4×100-meter relay team—composed of Ty Watkins, Caleb Yeary, Chase Webb, and Cole Grande—finished first with a time of 40.29 seconds. Samuel Werner added another win for Samford by completing the men’s 400-meter hurdles in 52.79 seconds.
Other notable performances included Jess Edwards finishing second in the women’s 800 meters (2:03.53), Stephen Jones taking second place in the men’s 1500 meters (4:00.49), and Ellison Chadwick contributing to both relay success and individual long jump standings.
Samford will next compete at the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships scheduled for May 11-12 in Cullowhee, North Carolina.
