The Samford men’s and women’s track and field teams won a total of 14 events at the UAB Spring Invitational held on March 28 in Birmingham, Alabama.
The event saw strong performances from both teams, with several student-athletes taking first place in their respective disciplines. The results highlight the depth of talent within the Samford squads as they prepare for upcoming competitions.
On Friday, Bryce Davis secured victory in the men’s hammer throw with a distance of 53.52 meters, while J.T. Shaw claimed first place in the women’s hammer throw at 50.06 meters. Kyle Kaufelds won the men’s javelin by throwing 64.85 meters, and Kiera-Lee Abrahams led the women’s long jump with a mark of 5.98 meters.
The relay team consisting of Cole Grande, Chase Webb, Caleb Yeary, and Bradley Franklin set a new facility record in the men’s 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:25.08. Jess Edwards finished first in the women’s 1500 meters with a time of 4:28.82.
Saturday’s competition featured Arthur Chitty winning the men’s high jump at 2.10 meters and Shaw taking another win in the women’s shot put at 13.56 meters. Davis also earned first place in the men’s shot put with a distance of 16.22 meters, while Gilbert Stein won the men’s 110-meter hurdles in 15.25 seconds.
Other winners included Franklin in the men’s 100-meter dash (10.60 seconds), Mac Meredith in the men’s 800 meters (1:52.67), Samuel Werner in the men’s 400-meter hurdles (53.81 seconds), and Grande again leading with victory in the men’s 400-meter run (47.10 seconds).
Looking ahead, Samford is scheduled to compete next at Troy Invite on April 3-4.
