Senator Katie Boyd Britt addressed a range of issues in a series of posts on September 9, 2025, including a local tragedy, national education concerns, and Senate procedural disputes.
In her first post, Britt expressed condolences following the death of Dr. Julie Schnuelle in Auburn. On September 9, she wrote: “Wesley and I are keeping the family of Dr. Julie Schnuelle and the entire Auburn community in our prayers. I’m deeply grateful for the law enforcement officials working to get justice for this heinous murder.”
Later that day, Britt commented on national education outcomes. She stated: “The American people deserve a better return on their investment in education. Spending has increased, but outcomes have not—these 2024 test scores reflect that. Alongside @POTUS and @EDSecMcMahon, I’m committed to addressing the many challenges in our education system.” Recent reports indicate that while federal and state spending on K-12 education has risen over the past decade, standardized test scores have remained flat or declined in several key areas.
In her final post of the day, Britt addressed ongoing tensions within the U.S. Senate regarding confirmation processes. She wrote: “We are not going to allow the obstruction by Senate Democrats to continue. Senate Republicans are working to make this body function again and confirm President Trump’s nominees.” The current political climate in Congress has been marked by partisan disputes over judicial and executive branch nominations.
Senator Katie Boyd Britt represents Alabama in the United States Senate.
