Senator Katie Boyd Britt, a U.S. Senator from Alabama and chair of the homeland security appropriations subcommittee, has recently posted several statements on her official X account highlighting issues ranging from public safety to support for small businesses.
On May 7, 2026, Britt addressed the death of Sheridan Gorman and called for legislative action, stating: “Sheridan Gorman should still be with us today. Her story remains a tragedy and one that was preventable. Congress must act to end sanctuary city policies NOW.”
The following day, Britt visited a local business in Tuscaloosa and acknowledged its role in the community: “Had to stop by @TacoCasaTtown while in Tuscaloosa today! For more than 50 years, this family-owned small business has been a staple for locals, students, and visitors alike. Tuscaloosa wouldn’t be the same without the incredible local businesses who invest in and give back to”.
Later on May 8, Britt highlighted Republican efforts to prioritize small businesses through tax relief initiatives: “From childcare tax relief—including expanding the Employer-Provided Tax Credit—to no tax on tips and overtime and more, Republicans made sure small businesses were at the center of the Working Families Tax Cuts Act. As the daughter of two small business owners, I’m always proud”.
Britt’s recent communications reflect broader priorities outlined on her official website, including supporting Alabamians by coordinating with federal agencies and nominating candidates for U.S. service academies. She is an advocate for family values, economic opportunity, mental health access, educational options, agricultural aid, social media safeguards for minors, and national security. Additionally, Britt serves on several Senate committees—appropriations; judiciary; banking housing and urban affairs; rules and administration—and previously led as president of Alabama’s business council.
