Senator Katie Boyd Britt, a U.S. Senator from Alabama, used her social media platform on July 16, 2025, to call for legislative action regarding the regulation of social media and its impact on children. In a series of posts, she emphasized the urgency for Congress to address these concerns.

In her first post on July 16, Britt stated, “When it comes to putting up guardrails on social media, Congress cannot keep kicking the can down the road. The time for action is now.”

Later that day, she highlighted personal concerns as a parent and advocated for warning labels on social media platforms. On July 16 she wrote, “As a mom, I know how dangerous social media can be for our kids—the statistics are staggering. @SenFettermanPA and I believe that, like cigarettes and alcohol, social media needs warning labels that link to real help for our children and families.” Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania was mentioned as an ally in this effort.

In another post from July 16, Britt referenced her collaborative work with Senator Fetterman: “Many of the results we deliver for the American people start with honest conversations built on trust and respect. Grateful to work with my good friend @SenFettermanPA to find solutions that move our nation forward.”

Concerns about children’s safety online have been increasing in recent years. Lawmakers across party lines have introduced various proposals aimed at regulating technology companies and providing more protections for minors using digital platforms.
