Senator Katie Boyd Britt, a Republican representing Alabama, posted several updates on her social media account in early October 2025. Her posts addressed topics including the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, the federal government shutdown, and support for judicial nominees from Alabama.
On October 1, 2025, Senator Britt extended greetings to the Jewish community by posting: “Wishing my Jewish friends a meaningful Yom Kippur observance. May you be inscribed in the Book of Life.”
Addressing the ongoing government shutdown on October 2, 2025, she wrote: “Since Democrats have decided to shut down the government—furloughing our federal workers and withholding pay from our troops—I have requested the Financial Clerk of the Senate to do the same with my pay. I encourage my Democratic colleagues to do the same.”
Later that day, Senator Britt expressed her endorsement for judicial candidates from her home state at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing: “Proud to voice my support at this week’s @SenJudiciaryGOP hearing for three outstanding Alabama judicial nominees. Now more than ever, we need strong jurists on the bench across our nation, and I’m grateful for @POTUS’ commitment to making that happen.”
Yom Kippur is regarded as one of the most important holidays in Judaism and is observed with fasting and prayer. Government shutdowns in recent years have resulted from funding disagreements between political parties, leading to temporary closures of federal agencies and delayed compensation for government employees and military personnel. Judicial nominations are reviewed by the Senate Judiciary Committee before being considered by the full Senate.
