U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Ala.) has released a statement marking the 24th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. In her remarks, Britt reflected on the impact of the attacks and honored those who lost their lives as well as first responders.

“Today, as Americans, we reflect on the 24th anniversary of 9/11, one of the darkest days in American history. Just as we came together after the deadliest terrorist attack in human history, we come together now as a united nation in remembering the 2,977 innocent lives taken from this Earth on that day. We will never forget these men and women who forever live in our hearts.

“Today, we also honor the first responders, true heroes, who defended our nation and fought to save their fellow Americans. Their sacrifice reminds us of America’s strength, courage, and faith. We owe a tremendous debt to those selfless Americans, including those on United Flight 93. May God bless America as we continue to move forward, as one Nation under God.”
