Rep. Terri A. Sewell, currently representing Alabama’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, made several claims on social media regarding the implications of alleged actions by Donald Trump and Elon Musk on Social Security benefits. The tweets were shared on April 1 and 2, 2025.

On April 1, Sewell stated, “Trump and Musk are trying to make it impossible for millions of Americans to get their hard-earned Social Security benefits. House Democrats are holding a hearing right now to expose their dangerous scheme. Tune in here.”

Sewell further highlighted an interaction from the hearing in a post later that day, saying, “According to Trump’s Commerce Secretary, only ‘fraudsters’ would complain about missing a Social Security check. During House Democrats’ hearing, I asked Ms. Judith Brown what would happen if she and her family missed a check. Her answer? ‘We would not survive.'”

In another post on April 2, Sewell emphatically wrote, “Hands off Social Security!!! “
