Representative Terri A. Sewell, serving Alabama’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress since 2011, recently expressed her views on social media regarding proposed tax policies and their implications on healthcare. Sewell, a Harvard-educated attorney from Birmingham, Alabama, shared her perspective through a series of tweets on May 14, 2025.

In her first tweet at 00:59 UTC, Sewell criticized the proposal to remove millions of Americans from their healthcare plans to facilitate substantial tax benefits for the wealthy. She described this move as an “OUTRAGEOUS betrayal” of American values. “To kick millions of Americans off their health care in order to give trillions in tax giveaways to the wealthy is an OUTRAGEOUS betrayal of our values as Americans.”

Later that morning at 01:36 UTC, Sewell provided an update on the ongoing discussions surrounding what she termed as “Trump’s horrible billionaire tax giveaway.” She acknowledged Leader Jeffries for his support and emphasized that Democrats remain committed to opposing these measures. “Hour seven of marking up Trump’s horrible billionaire tax giveaway. Thanks to Leader Jeffries for stopping by to keep us energized and in the fight! Democrats are not backing down!”

At 02:22 UTC, Sewell further commented on the financial strain faced by her constituents due to these proposed policies. She argued that instead of receiving tax reliefs, her constituents risk losing their healthcare coverage while others benefit from financial schemes associated with former President Trump. “My constituents can’t afford to bribe Trump by funneling money into his crypto scheme or buying him a new jet. So instead of getting a tax break, they get their health care taken away. Corruption plain and simple.”

Terri Sewell has represented Alabama’s 7th District since succeeding Artur Davis in 2011.
