UAB’s Ashley Torsone and Sadie Sharpe were recognized on May 5 with AVCA Top Flight honors for their performance on Court 5 during the 2026 season. The pair achieved a record of 13-3 together, helping to secure what is described as the most successful season in program history.
The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top Flight program highlights pairs who compete in at least 15 matches together at a specific flight and win at least 75% of those matches. This distinction places Torsone and Sharpe among the nation’s leading duos at their position.
Individually, both players had strong junior seasons. Torsone finished with an overall record of 16-13, including a 15-6 mark on Court 5. Sharpe posted a record of 16-8 overall, going 14-3 on Court 5. According to the team, “Sharpe ranked among the program’s top single-season performers on Court 5, while Torsone’s production added stability and depth across the lineup.”
Their partnership contributed significantly to UAB’s record-setting campaign, which included a total of 26 wins and an undefeated run in Conference USA play. The team’s success was attributed to reliable performances across all five courts.
Both athletes have shown improvement throughout their collegiate careers. “Sharpe improved her win total in each of her three seasons, while Torsone has been a consistent contributor in the lower courts since her freshman year,” according to the release. Their development culminated in one of UAB’s strongest showings from Court 5 during the recent season.
