UAB Adds Brewer Brothers to Roster

5

UAB head men's basketball coach Andy Kennedy has announced the addition of Ledarrius and Ty Brewer to the roster.

Ledarrius and Ty, brothers who each spent the past two seasons at ETSU, each averaged over 10 points and five rebounds per game this past season.

"We're excited to have Ledarrius and Ty Brewer join our program," Kennedy said. "Both come as experienced players who have greatly impacted their previous teams."

Ledarrius Brewer, a two-time All-Southern Conference honoree at ETSU, started all 32 games for the Buccaneers this past season, tying for the team lead in points per game (14.6). Brewer also ranked second on the team with 5.3 rebounds per game while ranking third on ETSU's roster with 37 steals, 68 assists, 60 made 3-pointers and 11 blocks.

The 6-5 guard from Meridian, Mississippi, recorded a double-double against the Blazers in UAB's 70-56 victory over the Buccaneers on Dec. 1. Brewer led ETSU with 15 points, 10 rebounds and three made 3-pointers in UAB's matchup against the Buccaneers in December.

Brewer spent the first two seasons of his college career at Southeastern Missouri State, averaging 13.6 points and 4.2 rebounds in 59 games (49 starts). He reached double figures in scoring 44 times at SEMO, finishing his Redhawks' career with 805 points and 118 made 3-pointers. He also earned a spot on the Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer Team after averaging 14.5 points in 31 games (27 starts) as a freshman.

"Ledarrius is a big, athletic wing who is a two-time All-Southern Conference performer," Kennedy said. "His ability to score at all three levels will help us fill the void created with the graduation of Quan [Jackson] and Michael [Ertel]."

Ty Brewer, a 6-9 forward who led ETSU with 6.7 rebounds per game this past season, was one of ETSU's four student-athletes who averaged more than 10 points per game in 2021-22. Brewer logged 12 performances with eight or more rebounds this past season, scoring six points and pulling down eight rebounds against UAB on Dec. 1.

In his first season at ETSU in 2020-21, Brewer was named to the Preseason All-SoCon Team and finished the year averaging 8.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per contest.

Ty Brewer spent the first two seasons of his collegiate career at Southeastern Louisiana, tallying 563 points, 313 rebounds, 56 steals and 31 blocks in 57 career games (31 starts) with the Lions. In his second and final season with the Lions, Brewer started 28 of his 31 games played, averaging 14.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. His 7.7 rebounds per game ranked fifth in the Southland Conference in 2019-20.

"Ty is a very active, athletic forward who adds versatility to our frontcourt," Kennedy said. "His ability to score, rebound and block shots gives him the opportunity to make an immediate impact for Blazer Basketball."
