UAB MBB Dominates Rice on Senior Night

BIRMINGHAM – While celebrating six players on Senior Night, UAB men's basketball (21-8, 12-6 C-USA) took control early and did not look back, defeating Rice (17-11, 8-9 C-USA) in dominant fashion, 85-57. Jordan Walker scored 32 points and dished out eight assists to lead the way.

After Rice took an early 4-2 lead, the Blazers went on a 23-0 run to jump out to a dominant 25-4 lead over the Owls. The run was spurred by 10 points and two assists from Walker and punctuated with an alley-oop from Walker to Trey Jemison.

With the Blazers leading 29-11 midway through the first half, UAB went on another dominant 21-2 run over the next six minutes. Walker scored 11 of the Blazers points during the stretch, including the three to put UAB on top 50-13. 

UAB led 55-24 at the break while shooting .541 from the field and dominated Rice on the boards, 26-13.

The Blazers maintained a large advantage through the second half, leading by as many as 37 points. In the late stages, Rice was able to cut it to 27, outscoring UAB in the second half, 33-30. The Blazers took the 85-57 victory on senior night.

  • UAB has won eight of its last nine games.
  • The Blazers led by over 30 points at halftime for the third time this season.
  • UAB grabbed 50 rebounds for the fourth time this season.
  • Jordan Walker recorded his eighth 30-point game of his UAB career, passing Andy Kennedy for the most in program history.
  • Walker finished with 32 points and eight assists and hit six threes for the sixth time this season.
  • He has now tied Mo Finley for No. 6 on UAB's single season three-pointer list.
  • The Blazers are 8-0 when Jelly scored 30 or more points.
  • Trey Jemison recorded his 11th double-digit rebounding effort of the season.
  • KJ Buffen scored 14 points while shooting 6-for-11 from the field, reaching double figures for the 18th time this season.

Individual and corporate groups can plan a memorable experience at Bartow Arena by filling out the UAB Basketball Group Ticket Request Form. Discounted group tickets and fan experiences are available for a minimum purchase of 15 tickets, and fan experiences are available on a first come, first served basis to any home basketball game during the 2022-23 season.
