U.S. Senator Katie Britt has voiced opposition to a Biden administration plan that would forgive $4.65 billion of Ukraine's debt, effectively transferring the financial burden to American taxpayers. This week, Britt supported a joint resolution of disapproval introduced by U.S. Senator Rand Paul to block the proposed debt cancellation.

Britt criticized President Biden's decision as an "irresponsible, lame-duck scheme" and emphasized that Ukraine should repay its debts "in cash or mineral rights—no matter how long it takes." She expressed concern over the national debt, which has surpassed $36 trillion, stating that Americans should not bear additional foreign debt due to a unilateral decision by an outgoing president.

The administration submitted a report to Congress indicating Biden's intention to cancel 50 percent of Ukraine's economic assistance-related indebtedness from the United States. Paul's resolution aims to prevent this action and stop what he describes as a transfer of debt responsibility onto American citizens.

Senator Britt has consistently advocated for strict oversight on the use of U.S. taxpayer dollars abroad, particularly regarding funds directed toward Ukraine. She previously opposed legislation that would have allocated taxpayer money for Ukrainian government pensions.
