On February 13, 2025, Rep. Sewell highlighted the achievements of Alabama native Zora Neale Hurston in celebration of Black History Month. Later that day, Sewell addressed healthcare policy concerns with urgency in her post: ” Right now, House Republicans are taking the first steps to cut your health care in order to give tax breaks to the very wealthy. It’s unacceptable and I will be fighting back!!” This tweet reflects her opposition to proposed changes by House Republicans.
On February 14, 2025, Rep. Sewell honored civil rights activist Sheyann Webb-Christburg as part of Black History Month celebrations. She stated: “Today we recognize Sheyann Webb-Christburg! At 8 years old, she was the smallest Freedom Fighter to march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. While America knows her as a pioneering activist, I’m proud to call her my former babysitter, mentor, and lifelong friend #BlackHistoryMonth”
