On June 10, 2025, Rep. Sewell expressed concern over the impact of the Trump Administration’s policies on rural learners. She stated, “It is our rural learners who will be hit hardest by the Trump Administration’s attacks on the Department of Education. I just spoke at a briefing on Capitol Hill to raise awareness.”
Later that day, she provided an update from Washington D.C., commenting on the current state of affairs under the administration. She tweeted, “Back in DC for another week of cuts, chaos, and confusion under the Trump Administration. Here’s a quick update.”
On June 11, 2025, Rep. Sewell shared her views on Job Corps, emphasizing its importance as a workforce development program and its role for vulnerable youth. Rep. Sewell was born in Huntsville, Alabama in 1965 and currently resides in Birmingham. She holds degrees from Princeton University, St Hilda’s College at Oxford University, and Harvard University.
