Representative Terri A. Sewell, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Alabama’s 7th district since 2011, recently expressed her concerns on social media regarding decisions made by the Trump Administration. Her tweets focused on economic investments and legislative measures that she perceives as detrimental to both her constituents and the nation.
On June 3, 2025, Sewell highlighted two significant $75 million investments in Birmingham and Bessemer aimed at bolstering the economy and creating jobs while promoting clean energy. She criticized the Trump Administration for terminating these investments, describing it as “outrageous.” “We fought like hell to secure these two $75 million investments in Birmingham and Bessemer because they would strengthen our economy and create jobs, all while promoting clean energy. For the Trump Administration to cut them off is outrageous!”
The following day, June 4, Sewell voiced her opposition to a rescissions package introduced by the Trump Administration. She characterized it as a scheme to benefit billionaires at taxpayers’ expense while undermining essential services such as free press, humanitarian aid, and national security. She assured her followers of her intent to vote against it: “The Trump scheme to steal taxpayer money and enrich the billionaire class continues. The rescissions package introduced yesterday would attack the free press, cut off lifesaving humanitarian aid, and harm our national security. Rest assured, I will be voting NO!”
Later that same day, Sewell shared news from the Congressional Budget Office regarding financial implications of what she referred to as “Trump’s Big Ugly Bill.” According to Sewell’s tweet, this bill is projected to increase the national debt by $2.4 trillion and result in 10.9 million more people without health insurance: “NEWS: The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that Trump’s Big Ugly Bill will add $2.4 trillion to the national debt and increase the number of people without health insurance by 10.9 million.” She questioned whether fiscal responsibility was being sacrificed for tax cuts.
Terri Sewell was born in Huntsville, Alabama in 1965 and currently resides in Birmingham. She holds degrees from Princeton University (BA), St Hilda’s College at Oxford (MA), and Harvard University (JD).
