Terri Sewell, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Alabama’s 7th district since 2011, has recently taken to social media to express her opposition to a legislative proposal she refers to as a “billionaire boondoggle bill.” Sewell, who succeeded Artur Davis in Congress and resides in Birmingham, has made clear her stance on various aspects of the bill through several tweets.
On May 22, 2025, Sewell shared that she had just left the Rules Committee after proposing two amendments aimed at addressing critical issues. She stated, “I just left the Rules Committee where I proposed two amendments that would help close the Medicaid gap and protect public school funding.” In this post, she reiterated her commitment to opposing what she perceives as a detrimental bill.
Later that day, Sewell posted another tweet expressing her strong disapproval of the proposed legislation. She declared it was not beneficial for families in Alabama and described it as primarily serving billionaires’ interests. She asserted her firm opposition by stating, “This is not one big beautiful bill, it’s a tax break to billionaires and a betrayal of Alabama families. I’m not just voting no, I’m voting HELL NO!”
In another tweet on May 22nd, Sewell succinctly emphasized her stance on maintaining support for essential programs such as Medicaid and SNAP with the statement: “Hands off Medicaid and SNAP!”
Sewell’s educational background includes degrees from Princeton University (BA), St Hilda’s College at Oxford (MA), and Harvard University (JD). Born in Huntsville in 1965, Terri Sewell continues to advocate for policies she believes will benefit constituents in Alabama.
