Three members of the Samford outdoor track and field teams were recognized with Southern Conference Athlete of the Week honors, according to an April 1 announcement from the league.
The awards highlight strong performances by Bryce Davis, Aaliyah Mbenda, and JT Shaw at the UAB Spring Invitational. The recognition is part of the conference’s regular acknowledgment of outstanding athletic achievements during its weekly awards cycle.
Davis was named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after winning both the men’s hammer throw with a distance of 53.52 meters and the men’s shot put at 16.22 meters. Shaw earned Women’s Field Athlete of the Week by securing first place in both the women’s hammer throw at 50.06 meters and women’s shot put with a mark of 13.56 meters. Mbenda was selected as Women’s Track Athlete of the Week for placing third in the women’s 100-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 13.52 seconds.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to compete next at the Troy Invite on April 3-4 in Troy, Alabama.
