The UAB beach volleyball team completed a perfect weekend at the Stampede Beach Opener, hosted by South Florida in Clearwater, on March 28. The Blazers improved their record to 16-9 overall and 3-0 in Conference USA play after winning all four of their matches over two days.
The team’s performance matters as it extended their winning streak to six matches and included two important conference victories over UTEP and South Florida. These wins help strengthen UAB’s position within Conference USA as the season progresses.
On Friday, UAB began with a dominant 5-0 win against Stephen F. Austin, followed by a 4-1 victory over Sacramento State. Saturday saw the Blazers sweep UTEP without dropping a set before facing host South Florida, which had entered the match on an eleven-match winning streak.
Several players achieved personal milestones during the event. Olivia Chychrun and Ava Grace Knott won in straight sets on Court 3 against South Florida, marking Chychrun’s nineteenth career victory on that court—a tie for the program record. Sadie Sharpe and Ashley Torsone also secured a win on Court 5. On Court 1, Jasmine Haas recorded her eighty-fifth career individual victory and seventy-ninth on Court 1; Olivia Stant moved into sole possession of second place on UAB’s all-time individual wins list with seventy-two.
Freshman Ava Grace Knott tied the program’s freshman single-season record with twenty wins, joining Claudia Stockard (2025) and Jasmine Haas (2023). The duo of Knott and Chychrun is now tied for ninth in program history for single-season wins as a pair with twenty victories this season.
UAB will return to competition next weekend at Diggin’ Duals hosted by Georgia State in Atlanta.
