UAB defeated Charlotte by a score of 11-2 on May 9, as the Blazers recorded their 29th win of the season. The team out-hit the 49ers, collecting thirteen hits to Charlotte’s eight.
The Blazers took an early lead with four runs in the bottom of the first inning after their first four hitters reached base and later scored. UAB extended its advantage in the fourth inning, scoring three more runs. Landon Beaver contributed with an RBI single, while Brady Waugh added a double that brought home two additional runs.
Charlotte responded with one run in both the fourth and sixth innings, both driven in by Dawson Bryce. However, UAB continued to build its lead by scoring four more times in the seventh inning. Max Price singled for an RBI, Kevin Hall Jr. doubled to drive home two runners, and Alex Dupuy finished off the frame with a sacrifice fly.
Freshman Carter Samuelson pitched five innings for UAB, allowing two earned runs and striking out two batters on his way to his fifth win of the year. Chase Ingram completed the final four innings without giving up any runs and earned his second save of the season.
Several players achieved notable performances: Samuelson is now tied for most wins on the team this year; Wesley Helms and Beaver each had three hits; Waugh collected his seventeenth multi-hit game; and UAB scored ten or more runs for their seventeenth time this season—tied for third most in program history.
UAB will play Charlotte again on Sunday at Young Memorial Field at 1 p.m., with Senior Day activities scheduled before first pitch.
