UAB Baseball defeated North Alabama 10-0 on Mar. 31, marking the Blazers’ sixth straight victory and their first shutout of the season. The game, played in Birmingham, also improved UAB’s home record to 16-4 this season, tying for the second-best start at home in school history.
The significance of this win is reflected not only in the team’s current streak but also in its historical context, as it marks just the sixth time UAB has achieved such a strong home start.
UAB scored first in the bottom of the second inning when Max Price drove in Alex Dupuy with an RBI groundout. The team continued to build its lead with two more runs in the third inning. Notably, Alex Cheeseman returned from injury and scored on a wild pitch before Landon Beaver executed a rundown that allowed John Paul Head to score from third base.
In the sixth inning, Kevin Hall Jr. hit a grand slam—his fourth home run of the year and his second against North Alabama—to give UAB a commanding 7-0 lead. Wesley Helms added further runs with a single through right field during another bases-loaded situation in the seventh inning, followed by Cheeseman’s single into center field that secured UAB’s fourth run-rule victory this season.
Pitchers Justin Hicks and Christian Helmers contributed to UAB’s first shutout since April 25, 2025. Both Hall Jr. and Helms recorded their tenth multi-hit games of the season and extended their hitting streaks to six games each; Helms now has reached base safely for sixteen consecutive games. Brady Waugh picked up his eighth multi-hit game this year after collecting two hits during Tuesday’s contest.
The win was also notable as Head Coach Casey Dunn earned his 650th on-field victory with UAB. The pitching staff has held opponents to an average of just three-and-a-half runs per game over its last four outings.
Looking ahead, both players and coaches will seek to maintain their momentum as they approach upcoming matchups.
