The University of Alabama at Birmingham men’s golf team will compete in the American Conference Championship from April 27 to April 29 at The Ritz-Carlton Members Club in Bradenton, Florida.

The championship is significant as it brings together top teams from the conference to compete over three rounds on a par-72, 7,417-yard course. Teams will be paired and tee off from both the first and tenth holes throughout the event.

UAB enters the tournament after a strong spring season, having finished in the top four of every tournament since their last fall event. Two Blazers golfers earned individual titles this spring: Alejandro Fierro won at the Golfweek/Stifel Men’s Spring Challenge in April, while Erik Olin claimed victory at the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate in February. The team has not finished behind any other American Athletic Conference opponent during tournaments this spring and has recorded its highest number of top-three finishes since the 2015-16 season, including three runner-up placements. UAB recently secured additional momentum with a win over Chattanooga at “The Match at the Ledges.”

“All of the work the guys have put in this year and all of the positions we have put ourselves in, in tournament play has set us up for this week,” head coach Charlie Hoyle said. “We have had a great run of form this spring and we are playing up close to our potential. We are excited for the chance to compete this week and will make the most of the opportunity.”

Charlotte enters as defending champion after winning its first American Conference title last year and aims to become only the second program to repeat as champions since South Florida’s streak from 2015 through 2018. According to Clippd rankings released on April 22, Charlotte is ranked No. 22 nationally—the highest among conference teams—followed by South Florida (No. 55), Rice (No. 68), Memphis (No. 70), North Texas (No. 92), and UAB (No. 100).

Awards such as Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Coach of the Year, All-Conference Team selections, along with honors for individual champion and runner-up will be determined following completion of play.
