UAB Softball was eliminated from the American Conference Championships following a 2-1 defeat against Tulsa on May 6. The game ended with a walk-off two-run single by the Golden Hurricane, bringing the Blazers’ 2026 season to a close.
The outcome is significant as it marks the end of UAB’s postseason hopes and concludes their year in competition. The tightly contested matchup saw both teams struggle offensively until late in the game.
Antonia Henderson gave UAB an early lead in the fifth inning with her fourth home run of the season. Despite this, UAB managed only one hit for the entire game and could not advance additional runners past first base in later innings. Olivia Cummings pitched for most of the contest, allowing two earned runs over six and two-thirds innings before being relieved by Hannah Cole in a save situation during Tulsa’s final at-bat.
Tulsa consistently threatened to score with lead-off singles in three consecutive innings but were held off by strong defensive plays from UAB until their last opportunity. In the bottom of the seventh, Tulsa loaded the bases and secured victory with a single that drove in two runs.
Cummings finished her outing having given up seven hits, two earned runs, two hit batters, and one walk while striking out four batters. Madeline Flammia reached base three times without recording a hit through walks and being hit by pitches.
Looking ahead, this result ends UAB’s current campaign as they look toward future seasons for another chance at postseason play.
