UAB Baseball will play against No. 6 Auburn at Regions Field in Birmingham on May 5, according to a May 4 announcement. The game is set for Tuesday night and will be the Blazers’ seventh and final matchup against a Southeastern Conference team this season.
The event features a Cinco de Mayo promotion called ‘It’s Cinco Somewhere,’ offering $5 margaritas and two tacos for $5 during the game. UAB enters the contest with a record of 28-19 overall and 12-9 in conference play, while Auburn holds a record of 32-14 overall and 14-10 in its conference.
Auburn leads the all-time series between the teams, holding a record of 57 wins to UAB’s 12. In Birmingham, Auburn has won 21 times compared to UAB’s eight victories, including six wins out of nine games played at Regions Field. The last meeting between these teams was on March 10, when Auburn won by a score of 17-2.
Auburn’s lineup currently includes seven players batting above .300 this season, contributing to their team average of .302. Their pitching staff leads nationally in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.09), WHIP (1.13), and walks allowed per nine innings (2.62), ranking second nationally with an earned run average of 3.36.
For UAB, this season marks a new school record for home runs during the BBCOR era with a total of 67 so far, surpassing the previous mark set in Casey Dunn’s first year as head coach in 2022. The Blazers also have four players with double-digit stolen bases—tied for most in their league—and rank second with seventy-nine stolen bases this year.
Looking ahead, John Paul Head brings a seven-game hitting streak into Tuesday’s matchup after hitting his seventeenth home run over the weekend—tied for fifth best in program history for single-season totals.
