UAB Track & Field Has a Strong Start at the Bulldog Relays

UAB Track & Field continued their stellar performances on the first day of the 2023 Bulldog Relays hosted by Mississippi State. The Blazers finished the day with numerous personal bests and top-five finishes in their showing at Mike Sanders Track Complex.

The Green and Gold started out in discus with Tia Espinoza throwing a personal best throw of 37.48m, beating out her prior record of 36.92m. In jumps, Nia Hill led the Blazers in high jump with a 1.60m and Averie Foster and Haley Dempsey also had great showings, both setting PRs in the event with a 1.50m.

In the triple jump, Shauntia Landrum continued her performance from last week, where she jumped a season-high 12.00m to place her second overall in the event.

Turning to the track, though the running events were sparse in day one, the Women’s 4x800m relay team made an appearance for outdoor, with Sangie Lincoln-Velez making her debut. The ladies finished with a time of 9:31.75 overall.
