UAB defeated Tulane 5-4 on Mar. 29, completing a three-game sweep and marking its first conference series sweep since 2016.
The win is significant for UAB, as it demonstrates the team’s strong performance at home and their ability to come from behind in late innings. The Blazers now hold an 18-10 overall record and are 15-4 at Young Memorial Field.
Kevin Hall Jr. started the scoring with a two-run single in the first inning, putting UAB ahead early. Tulane responded in the fourth with back-to-back doubles and a sacrifice fly to tie the game at two runs each. In the sixth inning, Tye Wood gave Tulane a brief lead with a solo home run—the first of the series for either team.
Alex Dupuy tied things up again for UAB in the eighth with his sixth home run of the season. However, another error by UAB allowed Tulane to take a one-run lead in the ninth before Max Price hit a walk-off two-run homer, securing both the win and sweep for UAB.
“Price hit the Blazers’ fifth true walk-off of the season (Price, Cincy; Helms, MTSU; Waugh, MTSU),” according to information released by UAB Baseball. Price also extended his hitting streak to six games and finished his week going five-for-seven with two home runs over three games played.
Other notable performances included Alex Dupuy’s team-high eleventh multi-hit game this season and Wesley Helms extending his on-base streak to fifteen games while going nine-for-seventeen during this stretch.
Looking ahead, UAB will finish its five-game homestand against North Alabama on Tuesday at Young Memorial Field.
