Women’s Tennis Drops Hard-Fought Match To UAB, 4-3

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women’s tennis team fell to cross-town rival UAB, 4-3 in a hard-fought match Wednesday afternoon at the Samford Tennis Center.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 4-3 on the young season. UAB is also 4-3 with the victory.
 
Samford won the match at No. 1 doubles, with Samantha Nanere and Lindsay Song defeating Maggie White and Sydney Clarke, 6-3. UAB, however, won on the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles courts to secure the first point of the match.
 
In singles, Samford earned wins on the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 courts. At No. 3, Ally Hayduk defeated Clarke, 7-6, 6-1. On the No. 4 singles court, Song earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Annalisa Smith. At No. 6 singles, Cameron Rogin defeated Vanessa Mellynchuk, 7-6, 6-1.
 
UAB, however, won on the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 5 singles courts to take the 4-3 win.
 
Samford will host Murray State on Friday, Feb. 24. The match is set for a 2 p.m. start from the Samford Tennis Center.
