MBB Overcomes Slow Start to Down Jacksonville
UAB men's basketball (6-1) overcame a slow start to take down Jacksonville (3-2) by a score of 80-61. Jordan Walker led all scorers with 26 points after starting the game 1-for-9 from the field.
The Blazers fell behind early as Kevion Nolan gave the Dolphins an early 12-6 lead, scoring eight of Jacksonville's 12 points. Eric Gaines got the Blazers offense going with another highlight-reel dunk, getting UAB back into the game. The lead changed hands three times until Ty Brewer helped the Blazers take control.
The younger Brewer brother scored 12 of UAB's 14 points to give the Blazers a five-point advantage at 26-21. He finished in double figures for the second consecutive game.
UAB scored the final nine points of the first half, capped off by a Jordan Walker three pointer with just a few seconds remaining on the clock. The three pointer gave the Blazers their first double-digit lead of the night at 37-26.
The Blazers picked up where they left off in the first half, opening the second half on a 13-3 run to stretch the lead out to 50-29.
The Dolphins wrestled the UAB lead to 13 late in the second half, but that would be the closest that it would get. Jordan Walker and Eric Gaines knocked down threes on back-to-back possessions to put the game back out of reach.
